Shah’s allegation, Congress embezzles Rs 150 crore annually from Assam health budget!

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday made serious allegations against the Congress party. He said the Congress embezzled around Rs 150 crore every year from Assam’s health budget during its 15-year tenure in the state. He also alleged that corruption had severely weakened the public health system.

Addressing an event in Guwahati, Home Minister Shah said that a decade ago the condition of health services in Assam was very poor. He blamed the mismanagement and corruption during the Congress rule for this.

He claimed that during the Congress rule, funds allocated to strengthen the health sector were allegedly used to benefit politicians and their families, leaving hospitals and medical infrastructure in a weak state.

Amit Shah said that about 10 years ago, the health system in Assam had completely collapsed. The Congress government was more concerned about the economic well-being of its leaders’ families rather than improving health services for the people.

He stressed that the BJP-led governments at the Center and in the state are committed to ensuring affordable and accessible healthcare to all sections of the society.

Praising Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Home Minister Shah said that under his leadership there has been a significant change in the health infrastructure of the state in the last few years. He said that the medical facilities in Assam are now fast reaching the standards of more developed states like Gujarat, Maharashtra and Karnataka.

According to Home Minister Shah, the projects launched on Sunday will further strengthen the delivery of health services in the state and improve access to quality treatment for people, especially those living in rural and remote areas.

The Home Minister further said that the Center and the Assam government are working together on expanding medical infrastructure, setting up new facilities and upgrading existing hospitals, so that people no longer have to go out of the state for better treatment.

He said that the government is continuously focusing on building a strong healthcare system, which will ensure that treatment is affordable and accessible to every citizen.
