Don’t know how to dance, the courtyard is crooked; Questions over Pakistan’s umpiring after losing ODI series to Bangladesh
Pakistan has faced a crushing defeat in the ODI series played against Bangladesh. The third match of the series was played in Dhaka on Sunday (16 March). Pakistan had to face defeat by 11 runs. With this victory, Bangladesh won the series 2-1. After losing the series with the defeat in the third ODI, Pakistan cricket team has lodged an official complaint regarding the umpiring decision taken during the match. The team management has raised its objection to the match referee against a controversial decision of the on-field umpire.
According to reports, this controversy is related to the LBW review taken on the second to last ball of the match. Pakistan alleges that the Bangladesh team decided to take a review after watching the replays on the big screen, which is against the rules. According to the rules, any team has to take the decision of taking review before the replay appears on the screen.
At that crucial juncture of the match, Pakistan needed 12 runs from two balls to win. Bangladesh bowler Rishad Hussain’s ball pitched towards the leg stump and turned away from the batsman Shaheen Shah Afridi towards the leg side. The on-field umpire declared it wide. However, after some discussion, Bangladesh took a review for LBW, even though the ball had not hit Afridi’s legs or any part of his body.
Pakistan says that the review was taken after the replays appeared on the screen, which affected the decision. The team also alleged that Bangladesh took more than the stipulated 15 seconds to take the review. However, no timer was shown in the official broadcast, so it was not clear whether the review was taken within the stipulated time.
At present it is not clear what action the Pakistan Cricket Board wants to take through this complaint, but it is believed that the matter can be calmed down with an explanation or apology from the match referee.
During this first ODI series between the two countries after the T20 World Cup 2026, tension was seen many times between the players of both the teams. Salman Ali Aga’s run out is prominent in this. Bangladesh’s appeal for Agha’s run out was considered by the Pakistan team to be against the spirit of the game.
