How many Indian flagged ships are present west of the Strait of Hormuz?
There is currently a tense situation in the Strait of Hormuz. The closure of maritime traffic on this route by Iran has affected the global supply chain. Meanwhile, Iran has allowed Indian ships to pass through this route, which has brought relief to Indians. However, there are still many ships flying the Indian tricolor in the area around the strait, carrying a large number of Indian sailors.
The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways of the Government of India said that currently 22 Indian flag ships are present in the western part of the Strait of Hormuz. There are a total of 611 sailors on board these ships. No information about any type of accident has been reported in the last 24 hours. Along with this, Indian flag ship ‘Jag Ladki’ has also departed from UAE on March 14, this information was given in the press conference.
Rajesh Kumar Sinha, Special Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, said that the ‘Shivalik’ LPG carrier, which had departed from the Persian Gulf, has crossed the Strait of Hormuz and headed towards India. He said that all the necessary documentary processes and other arrangements have been completed even before the ship reaches the port, so that there is no delay in unloading the cargo.
Sinha assured that all Indian sailors present in the Gulf region are safe. “No incidents have been reported in the last 24 hours and the situation is being continuously monitored. Constant contact has been maintained with each ship and its crew. There are still 22 Indian-flagged ships, manned by 611 Indian sailors, west of the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf,” he said.
Sinha also told that the ship that left from UAE will reach India with crude oil by March 17. He said, “The Indian flag ship ‘Jag Ladki’ left UAE on March 14 and is coming towards India with about 81 thousand tonnes of crude oil. The ship and all the Indian sailors on board are safe. The ship is likely to reach Mundra port tomorrow.”
