ChatGPT’s free and ‘Go’ users will see ads
Open AI, a leading company in the artificial intelligence sector, has decided to start advertising for free and ‘Go’ users of its popular platform ChatGPT. This new system will currently be implemented in the US and will be rolled out in a phased manner in the coming weeks. According to the company, these ads will be shown only to logged-in adult users. At the same time, ChatGPT’s paid plans Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Education will remain completely ad-free.
Under this initiative, Open AI has partnered with a digital advertising company. Through this collaboration, advertisers will get the facility of better targeting and ad buying. According to reports, Criteo is offering advertisers investments ranging from $50,000 to $100,000.
The company has also launched a special page for advertisers, presenting Open AI as a platform where users actively seek information and make decisions. Open AI believes that showing advertisements during conversations can become a new medium of ‘commercial discovery’.
Under this model, advertisers are advised to provide multiple variations of different text and visuals to ensure better performance and reach.
According to the information, Open AI is under pressure from rising computing costs and intense competition in the AI field. The company is now focusing on diversifying its revenue sources to include subscriptions, API services, commerce and compute infrastructure as well as advertising. Currently, the plan is limited to the US, but there are indications that it may be extended to other markets and more user groups in the future.
