An incident like Ashok Kharat is contrary to the saint tradition of Maharashtra: Raj Thackeray!

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray on Monday expressed deep displeasure over the shocking information emerging in the case related to Ashok Kharat, who calls himself a “royal astrologer”. He raised questions about the moral decline of the state, which was once characterized by a tradition of saints and social reformers.

He highlighted the difference between Maharashtra, which had great saints like Sant Dnyaneshwar, Sant Tukaram and Gadge Baba, and the situation today. He said that in today’s situation people like Kharat are allegedly working under political patronage.

Raj Thackeray said in his post on

Raj Thackeray’s post pointed out “a tragic paradox”, adding that many of the sitting MLAs who are likely to be implicated in the scam are the same people who passed the Anti-Superstition and Black Magic Act in December 2013. This raises questions about whether their lust for power has weakened their commitment to reason and science.

He also talked about a worrying pattern in the state’s political system, which includes competition for power, fear of losing office and bureaucratic collusion. Raj Thackeray said, “The desire to become a minister after the race to get a ticket and then the fear of losing the post forces leaders to take help from people who call themselves charismatic. There are also allegations that some officers try to stay close to power by becoming advisors to ministers.”

Accepting Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s claim that the government itself has exposed the matter, Raj Thackeray said it raises many questions about the timing of the matter coming to light.

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray said that if the government wants to take credit for the investigation, it will also have to take responsibility for the intelligence failure that led to the case coming to light under its watch.

He further said that there are increasing discussions that this case is being used politically to weaken aspiring rivals. At the same time, it is also feared that once the political goal is achieved, this investigation will gradually be put on the back burner.

Raj Thackeray warned the media, saying, “Don’t become pawns in this kind of ‘wash-and-wash’ politics. Don’t let this matter rest until Ashok Kharat and his associates are given strict punishment.”

He also cautioned the citizens and said that if people keep electing such representatives despite rich traditions like Kirtan and Dnyaneshwari, then the future of Maharashtra may be in danger.

Raj Thackeray finally said that he will continue to make the youth aware about the real and progressive identity of Maharashtra. He appealed to the state to reject the shamelessness of people who compromise their moral values for political gains.
