In today’s era, the trend of ‘no sugar’ and ‘low sodium’ diet has increased, but the truth is that both sweet and salt are necessary for the body. They should be consumed in balanced quantity.

Nowadays, due to increasing awareness regarding fitness and health, people have started staying away from sweets. The trend of ‘no sugar’ or ‘low sugar’ diet has also increased rapidly, but according to Ayurveda, it is not right to give up sweets completely. Consumption of sweets in limited quantity is considered necessary for the balance and energy of the body, but do you know how important sweets are for the body according to Ayurveda and when and how much should sweets be consumed?

Any diet taken on time works like medicine for the body. There is time from food to water and when all things are done according to nature then the whole body remains balanced. Similarly, if sweets are eaten at the right time and in the right way, it gives strength to the body, keeps the mind happy and improves digestion, but eating sweets in excess or at the wrong time can also lead to obesity, laziness and many diseases.

Sweets provide instant energy to our body and keep our stomach full. Eating sweets satisfies hunger. Often people feel the urge to eat sweets after eating, but according to Ayurveda, sweets should be eaten before eating.

If you feel like eating something sweet, you can consume home-made halwa or sweets made from jaggery or dates. Apart from this, sweet fruits obtained from nature can also be consumed.

To satisfy your sweet cravings, avoid consuming ice cream or canned foods. These rapidly increase the amount of sugar in the blood and can be dangerous for diabetic patients.

Along with this, avoid eating sweets after meals because it increases Kapha dosha. One thing to keep in mind is that naturally sweet fruits and home-made sweets should be consumed in limited quantities. Excess of sweets can be a cause of problems related to increasing weight, swelling, diabetes, laziness and phlegm.
