Nitish can leave the chair after 13th April, will resign on 30th March!
Political turmoil has started intensifying in Bihar. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar can resign from the membership of Bihar Legislative Council on April 30, whereas after April 13, he can leave the post of Chief Minister any time. Sources related to the Chief Minister’s residence gave this information.
Nitish Kumar, who is currently a member of the Bihar Legislative Council, has already won the Rajya Sabha elections held on March 16. As per rules, Nitish Kumar has to resign from the state legislature within 14 days of being elected to Parliament. In this situation, if Nitish Kumar is not a member of the State Assembly or Legislative Council, he will have to resign from the post of Chief Minister also.
Regarding Rajya Sabha membership, the Chief Minister of Bihar did not say a single word on this matter during the 5 phases of his ‘Samriddhi Yatra’. The yatra ended in Patna on 26 March. During the Samriddhi Yatra, the Bihar Chief Minister addressed 32 public meetings in 32 districts, but nowhere did he mention going to the Rajya Sabha or resigning from the post of Chief Minister. However, in the recently concluded Rajya Sabha elections, he filed nomination and was elected as a member of the Upper House for the first time.
Speaking to IANS, Bihar Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar said, “Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is reported to have resigned on April 30. After this he will take up his Rajya Sabha membership.”
On the discussions about Nitish Kumar’s resignation from the post of MLC, Bihar government minister Ashok Choudhary said, “His departure from the House will be bitter for the entire Bihar. It is his (Nitish Kumar) decision with time and circumstances.”
