Opposition is not interested in debate, does not even respect parliamentary values: Nadda!

There was a heated argument between the ruling party and the opposition in the Rajya Sabha on Monday. Leader of the House JP Nadda made serious allegations against the Congress Party-led India Alliance, saying that the opposition is neither interested in debate nor has any respect for democratic values and parliamentary procedures.

He said that the conduct of the opposition parties shows that they do not respect the Constitution and the rules of procedure of Parliament. He alleged that when a member was given time to speak during Zero Hour, the opposition MPs continuously created disruptions.

In fact, earlier during Zero Hour, BJP MP Dr K Laxman had raised the issue of exclusion of Muslim community from OBC (Other Backward Class) category. Raising this issue during Zero Hour, he had said that the benefit of OBC reservation should be given only to socially backward classes and it should not be given on the basis of religion.

After this, uproar started in the house. The opposition leader wanted to present his views on this subject. But according to the rules this could not happen. In such a situation, the opposition walked out of the House.

Whereas JP Nadda said that this behavior of the opposition is an indication that the opposition does not have faith in democratic and parliamentary processes. He also said that the government is ready to discuss every topic, but the opposition is trying to avoid debate. He said that some opposition parties have been adopting vote bank politics and appeasement policy for years, especially in the context of the Muslim community.

He also mentioned that there is no provision for giving reservation to Muslims in OBC category in the Constitution and Andhra Pradesh High Court had earlier raised objection on this subject and had repealed it.

Also quoting the views of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, he said that the OBC category was originally determined on the basis of social and educational backwardness.

Nadda said that the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is ready to openly discuss any issue. He also appealed to the opposition for positive participation.

At the end of his statement, he strongly condemned the opposition’s behavior as indecent and said that this kind of politics harms democracy. He advised the opposition to move forward with new thinking and participate in meaningful debate.
