Gst Collection Crosses %E2%82%B92 Lakh Crore In March Registering 8 8 Year On Year Growth

Goods and Services Tax of India i.e. Goods and Services Tax (Goods and Services Tax-GST) Collections have witnessed strong growth through March 2026. According to government data, the total GST collection this month has crossed ₹2 lakh crore with an increase of 8.8%, which is a significant jump compared to ₹1.83 lakh crore in March 2025 last year.

Revenue increased from domestic and import

According to the data, revenue from domestic transactions increased by 5.9% to more than ₹1.46 lakh crore. At the same time, GST revenue from imports increased by 17.8% to reach ₹ 53,861 crore. This indicates that foreign trade and import activities also remain strong.

The month of March also saw an increase in issuance of GST refunds. A total of ₹22,074 crore of refunds were issued, which is 13.8% higher year-on-year. Net GST collection after refund adjustment stood at around ₹1.78 lakh crore.

Performance for the entire financial year

Total gross GST collections during FY 2025-26 (April to March) increased by 8.3% to more than ₹22.27 lakh crore. Net GST revenue after refund increased by 7.1% to ₹19.34 lakh crore.

Experts believe that this continuous increase in GST collection is a sign of strength in the country’s economic activity and improvement in tax compliance. Government revenues have remained stable due to growth in both domestic consumption and imports.

According to economic experts, if this pace continues then GST collection may improve further in the coming months. However, it will be important to keep an eye on global economic conditions and domestic demand as well. The GST figures for March 2026 bode positive for the Indian economy and show that progress continues towards stability and reform in the tax system.
