Hs Phoolka Lawyer Representing Victims Of The 1984 Anti Sikh Riots Joins The Bjp

Senior advocate HS Phoolka, who fought the legal battle for the victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday (April 1). Former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Phoolka has returned to active politics after nearly seven years. His move is being seen as an important political gain for BJP in Punjab.

Phoolka joined BJP in the presence of Hardeep Singh Puri, Manjinder Singh Sirsa and Tarun Chugh at the party headquarters in Delhi. HS Phoolka is a senior advocate of the Supreme Court and Delhi High Court and has played an important role in the fight for justice for the victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. Due to this work he got recognition at the national level.

Started political journey from AAP:

Phoolka entered politics in 2014 with the Aam Aadmi Party. He contested the Lok Sabha elections from Ludhiana seat in the same year, but faced defeat. After this, he won from Dakha seat in the 2017 Punjab Assembly elections and was also the leader of the opposition for some time.

However, Phoolka resigned from the post of MLA in 2018. He had said at the time that he wanted to focus entirely on the cases of riot victims. Later in early 2019, he also left AAP. Apart from this, he also had a brief association with Shiromani Akali Dal in December 2024.

Political message before 2027 elections

Phoolka’s joining BJP is considered important before the 2027 assembly elections in Punjab. This may help the party strengthen its hold on the Sikh community and human rights issues.

HS Phoolka’s image has been that of an honest and fighting leader for justice, which can prove to be politically beneficial for BJP. At present, no formal announcement has been made by the party regarding his role, but it is believed that in the coming time, he can be given an active role in the politics of Punjab.
