A war-time bomb weighing 1,362 kg was lifted up and moved to a safe location on Thursday, according to the Hanoi Capital Military High Command.

The 210-cm-long M-118 bomb which contained more than 800 kg of dynamite, was discovered near Long Bien Bridge in Hanoi by a local resident on Oct. 21.

The Military Command of Long Bien District took measures to move the bomb closer to the bank. They also deployed local militia forces from Ngoc Lam and Bo De wards to guard and ensure the safety of the site.

Given the high-risk assessment of the situation, the district command reported the finding to higher authorities, implemented safety measures, and organized the relocation as planned.

Earlier on Oct. 10, another bomb of the same type was also relocated and safely handled by the command.

Long Bien Bridge, an iconic symbol of Hanoi, was constructed by the French between 1898 and 1902, and endured bombings during the Vietnam War.
