Myth vs Fact: Ayurveda is not limited to chronic diseases, effective in serious problems also

Nowadays, many misconceptions are spread about Ayurveda, which keep people away from its real benefits. According to the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, if Ayurveda is understood and adopted properly, it can prove to be very beneficial for health.

The myth is that Ayurveda is only for chronic diseases. This ministry states that this fact is not correct. Ayurveda is helpful in both acute and chronic problems. It not only cures the disease, but also prevents the disease before it occurs. Many small and big health problems can be avoided with Ayurvedic treatment at the right time.

There is also a myth regarding Ayurveda that only home remedies are Ayurveda. Refuting this, experts say that home remedies are only a small part of Ayurveda. The treatment prescribed by a real Ayurveda expert is based on the right combination of herbs, Panchakarma, diet and lifestyle changes. Adopting wrong remedies without expert advice can also cause harm, hence it is important to take advice from a qualified Ayurvedic doctor. The ministry says that Ayurveda should not just be used as a medicine but should be made a part of the entire lifestyle. Daily balanced diet, regular exercise, yoga, pranayam and adequate sleep are the basic principles of Ayurveda.

Experts say that Ayurveda is said to work very slowly. This is a myth. This is a common misconception. Ayurveda works effectively and gives lasting benefits under correct diagnosis and supervision of a qualified doctor. Ayurveda focuses on addressing the root cause of the disease, so sometimes it may take time.

Ayurveda maintains health by balancing the three doshas of the body, Vata, Pitta and Kapha. It not only works on physical but also mental and emotional health. If Ayurveda is adopted properly by removing misconceptions, many diseases can be prevented. In such a situation, experts believe that Ayurveda should be adopted after understanding it and with expert advice.
