Shambhavi Mudra is a panacea for increasing concentration and reducing stress.
In today’s busy life, excessive use of gadgets and work pressure affects our mind. This increases stress and makes it difficult to concentrate. In such a situation, ‘Shambhavi Mudra’ is a simple method. In this posture the devotee tries to fix his pupils at the place between the eyebrows. This practice looks simple but its impact is profound. This calms the mind and reduces stress and the brain starts working better.
According to the Ministry of AYUSH, Shambhavi Mudra is an ancient, powerful yogic technique, which involves fixing the eyes and focusing on the center of the eyebrows (third eye). It is done to calm the mind, increase concentration and experience higher consciousness.
It is believed that by doing Shambhavi Mudra, the flow of energy in the body remains balanced, which rises from the Muladhara Chakra and goes to the Ajna Chakra (third eye). This pose reduces cortisol (stress hormone), increases BDNF (brain health) and helps increase concentration.
It is very easy to do this. To do this, sit in a quiet place like Sukhasana, Siddhasana or on a chair with your back straight. Place the hands on the knees in Gyan Mudra (thumb and index finger together). Keep your eyes open and focus your attention on the center between the eyebrows. Keep breathing normal and do not let the mind wander.
Start with 5 to 10 minutes a day. You can gradually increase it to 21 minutes. This should be done slowly in the beginning. If there is eye strain, stop it.
Do not practice if you have cataracts, glaucoma or recent eye surgery. In the beginning, do it only for 1 to 2 minutes. If you feel a headache, immediately close your eyes and rest.
