Split in Congress over West Asia crisis

Political discussions have intensified with some senior Congress leaders praising the decisions taken by the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from time to time for the country. Differences are emerging within the Congress regarding Operation Sindoor, the ongoing war in Iran and the situation of LPG supply. Several senior leaders, including Kamal Nath, Anand Sharma, Shashi Tharoor and Manish Tewari, have expressed different opinions from Rahul Gandhi on the Middle East war and the government’s handling of fuel supplies to India. Leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has continuously criticized the diplomatic policy of the Modi government on the US-Israel-Iran war.

Rahul Gandhi has described India’s foreign policy under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as compromised, while Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has called it responsible politics. Congress MP Manish Tewari, while discussing the war in West Asia on a TV channel, said, the government is probably doing the right thing. Two senior Congress leaders, former Union Minister Anand Sharma and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath, have also praised the handling of the situation by the Central Government.

Anand Sharma praised the government and appealed for unity. He described India’s diplomatic strategy in dealing with the West Asia crisis as mature and efficient. At the same time, Kamal Nath rejected the Congress’s stand on the LPG crisis and said, “There is no such crisis. The talk of shortage is being said only to create an atmosphere.”

After these statements, BJP leaders have intensified their attack on Congress. Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said, “Now Congress leader Kamal Nath himself has accepted that there is no shortage of petrol, diesel or gas in the country.” He further said, “The time has come for the Congress to stop spreading fear and distrust among the people to earn its political bread.”
