According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), 62.71 percent voting was recorded in Kerala Assembly elections and 72.40 percent voting in Puducherry till 3 pm on Thursday.

Meanwhile, in Assam, as per the estimated data till 3 pm, voting was 75.91 per cent in the state, indicating a large participation of people in different assembly constituencies.

Voting figures show that despite the usual difficulties and challenges of weather, a large number of people are coming out to vote in Assam. Compared to other voting areas, Assam seems to be among the states with highest participation.

Voting for assembly elections in Assam, Kerala and Puducherry began at 7 am.

Voting is taking place for 126 assembly seats in Assam, 140 in Kerala and 30 in Puducherry. The results will be declared on May 4.

About 2.71 crore voters in Kerala will decide whose government will be formed in the state. Voting is going on at 30,471 polling stations from 5:30 am. The special thing is that about 2 lakh voters have already cast their votes through home voting.

The main contest in Assam is between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Indian National Congress (Congress). The ruling BJP is trying to come to power for the third consecutive time, while the Congress wants to return to power after 2016.

The tenure of the 126-member Assam Assembly will end on May 20.

Voting also started peacefully in Puducherry on Thursday morning, where people are continuously casting their votes for the 30-member assembly.
