Fraud in the name of singer Kailash Kher, case registered
By misusing the names of famous personalities, fraudsters easily make common people their victims. Especially young artists associated with music and film fields are more at risk of such scams. Recently a case has come to light that a lyricist has been defrauded of Rs 3.25 lakh by using the name of singer Kailash Kher. Mumbai’s Park Site Police has registered a case of fraud against 35-year-old Premal Praful Mehta in this matter.
The victim Chaitanya Govind Kanhaiya (38) is a native of Uttar Pradesh and currently lives in Oshiwara area of Mumbai. He is a lyricist and musician. In December 2025, he met accused Premal Mehta through an acquaintance. Mehta assured Kanhaiya that he could get Kailash Kher to record his song. The accused got Kanhaiya’s online conversation with Kailash Kher, in which the singer asked to contact his manager for further process. This further increased the confidence of the victim. Later, Mehta met Kanhaiya at Ghatkopar’s R-City Mall and asked for advance money in the name of recording and finalizing the contract. Coming into confidence, Kanhaiya transferred Rs 3.25 lakh from his bank account to the account of a woman named Neeta Saraikar mentioned by the accused.
As soon as Mehta received the money, he stopped contacting the victim. When Kanhaiya applied pressure, the accused gave a check on January 5, which later bounced. When the victim directly contacted Kailash Kher’s manager, the whole matter came to light that there was no conversation with Kailash Kher and it was a complete case of fraud.
After this Chaitanya Kanhaiya lodged a complaint at Park Site Police Station in Mumbai. Police have registered a case of fraud against Premal Praful Mehta and started investigation. Also, the police have advised people not to trust any person asking for money using a big name without checking and to ensure complete verification before transferring money.
