West Bengal Assembly Elections: ₹3000 to women and promise of UCC in 6 months in BJP’s ‘Bharosa Patra’

Union Home Minister Amit Shah released the election manifesto ‘Bharosa Patra’ of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections. In this, a big promise has been made of financial assistance of ₹ 3000 every month to women and implementation of Uniform Civil Code (UCC) within six months of coming to power. Releasing the manifesto, Shah described Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s 15-year rule as a “period of darkness” and claimed that people in the state were living in an atmosphere of fear and despair.

BJP has promised in its resolution letter that if the government is formed, an amount of ₹ 3000 will be transferred to the bank account of every woman in the state every month between 1st and 5th. Shah said that this step will be taken to economically empower women and strengthen the financial position of families.

The most important promise in the manifesto has been made regarding the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). Shah said that if BJP comes to power, UCC will be implemented within six months. BJP also announced to adopt a tough stance on the issue of illegal infiltration. “Detect, delete and deport will be our policy when we form the government,” Shah said. Many important announcements were also made in the manifesto for government employees and pensioners, Dearness Allowance (DA) will be ensured to all. The recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission will be implemented within 45 days.

Shah said that if the BJP government is formed in the state, the Centre’s major schemes like Ayushman Bharat will be fully implemented so that people can get better health facilities. Describing the manifesto as a “pledge of trust”, Amit Shah said that this document has been prepared keeping in mind every section of the state and its aim is to restore trust in Bengal.

He said that this resolution letter will give a new direction to farmers, women and youth and will take forward Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India. In its vision, BJP aims to revive the cultural identity of Bengal and create a state where people can live “without fear and with pride”.

Describing the period from Bengali New Year ‘Poila Baishakh’ (April 15) to Rabindranath Tagore’s birth anniversary (May 9) as a symbolic period, Shah talked about bringing back the “lost glory” of the state. With this manifesto of BJP, there are indications that the election contest in West Bengal will intensify further. Now it has to be seen what is the reaction of the public on these promises and in which direction the politics of the state moves forward.
