Demand for cabinet reshuffle in Karnataka Congress intensifies, more than 30 MLAs reach Delhi
The demand for cabinet reshuffle has intensified within the ruling Congress party in Karnataka. More than 30 Congress MLAs of Karnataka Assembly left for Delhi on Sunday (April 12), where they will meet the top leadership of the party and demand cabinet reshuffle and inclusion of new faces. Due to this, once again there is speculation about change of leadership in the state.
The delegation of MLAs that reached Delhi included Ashok Pattan, S.N. Narayanaswami, K. Many senior leaders including Shadakshari, AR Krishnamurthy, Puttaranga Shetty and Belur Gopal Krishna are included. All these in the next two days, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, General Secretary (Organization) K.C. Venugopal will meet Karnataka in-charge Randeep Surjewala and other AICC leaders and present his demands.
Senior MLA T.B. Jayachandra described the visit as a normal political process and said that its purpose was to discuss organizational issues and possible cabinet reshuffle. “This is a normal process… many MLAs are coming to Delhi and we want to meet the high command and request for the reshuffle,” he said. He clarified that there is no issue of change of leadership in the state.
Similarly, MLA S.N. Narayanaswamy said that the main objective of the delegation is to put forward the demand for cabinet reshuffle before the top leadership. He said that the topic of change of leadership is not included in the agenda and it is completely the prerogative of the high command.
MLA K. Shadakshari also said that if he gets time, he will also meet Rahul Gandhi. At the same time, AR Krishnamurthy said that senior MLAs who have won elections several times have collectively raised the demand for cabinet reshuffle and the Chief Minister has also been informed in this regard.
Ashok Pattan said that he has only one demand from the party leadership, cabinet reshuffle. He claimed that earlier the party had given assurance of reshuffle after two and a half years, but now three years have passed, so new MLAs should get the opportunity to become ministers for the remaining two years.
Meanwhile, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar had also recently indicated that a cabinet reshuffle was possible. He said, “When the Chief Minister himself has said that there will be a reshuffle, then everyone wants to become a minister or Chief Minister, there is nothing wrong in that.” This situation has arisen in the state amid internal tussle, especially between D.K. Regarding the demand by Shivkumar supporters to make him the Chief Minister. However, both Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Shiv Kumar have reiterated that the final decision in this matter will be taken by the party high command.
Overall, after these meetings to be held in Delhi, the situation regarding cabinet reshuffle in Karnataka Congress is likely to become more clear.
