Big announcement by Pai Data Centers, will launch a new 3 MW data center in Mumbai

Pi Data Centers on Monday (April 13) announced that it is going to open a 3 MW capacity data center in Central Mumbai, the first phase of which will be operational from August 2026. Property consultancy firm JLL said it has acted as special advisor in the lease deal for Pai’s Mumbai project. Along with this, JLL is also advising on the company’s 23 MW expansion project, which will include hyperscale, colocation and cloud data center capacity.

According to the company, this new data center in Mumbai will support the already existing 60 MW hyperscale capacity in Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh. Apart from this, there is a plan to start another 3 MW data center in Hyderabad in October 2026.

Kalyan Muppaneni, Founder, Chairman and CEO of Pai Data Centers, said that this new center in Mumbai will play an important role in meeting the rapidly growing enterprise needs, AI-based transformation, cloud adoption and data localization demand in India.

The company said that this facility has been specially designed keeping in mind the digital needs of the next generation so that enterprise, hyperscale and AI-based businesses can get better services.

Rachit Mohan, managing director of data center leasing for JLL’s APAC region, said the sector will remain bullish due to AI workloads, digitalisation and cloud services. With a presence in Mumbai, Amravati and Hyderabad, the company will be able to take advantage of low latency and large scale capacity.

According to the report, India’s data center industry has grown at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 24 percent since 2020 and its demand has almost doubled in the last five years.

Strong demand from hyperscale companies, banking (BFSI), e-commerce, media and technology sectors has fueled this growth. India is now emerging as a global data center hub due to cost competitiveness, adequate energy availability and stable policies.

JLL estimates that 100 gigawatts of new data centers will be added in India between 2026 and 2030, which could double global capacity.

Globally, the data center sector is projected to grow at a CAGR of 14 percent by 2030. During this time, new energy related technologies will be needed so that the pressure on the electricity grid can be reduced. At the same time, hyperscale companies will continue to play an important role in the growth of this sector.
