Opposition leaders have nothing to do with the women of the country: CM Rekha Gupta
Rekha Gupta said in her video message that parties like Congress and Samajwadi Party did not support the Women’s Reservation Bill. These people had decided that under no circumstances would women be allowed to reach the Assembly and Lok Sabha.
He alleged that the opposition kept making different excuses, sometimes talking about reservation on the basis of caste, sometimes on the basis of religion, and sometimes questions were raised regarding the number of seats.
The Chief Minister said that sometimes there was talk of 543 seats, sometimes of 850 seats, sometimes delimitation was made an issue. But the truth is that these people do not want half of the country’s population, about 70 crore women, to reach the House.
CM Rekha Gupta, while targeting the opposition leaders, said that they like only the women of their own house. Akhilesh Yadav sees Dimple Yadav and Rahul Gandhi sees only Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi.
He also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had clearly said that women should get their rights, but the opposition did politics on this issue also.
Regarding the number of seats, he gave the example of 1971 and said, “When 543 seats were decided in 1971, the population of the country was around 50-55 crores. Today the population has reached 140 crores, so shouldn’t the seats increase?”
The Chief Minister alleged that some leaders were sitting as ‘kings’ in their areas and did not want the seats to increase as it could give opportunity to new representatives, especially women.
Rekha Gupta said that in many countries of the world the representation of women is 40 to 50 percent, but in India women are being prevented from coming forward. He called it an ‘anti-women face’.
He warned that when opposition leaders visit their respective constituencies, women will question them as to why they did not support the Women’s Reservation Bill. Every woman will demand answers as to why this was done.
CM Rekha Gupta said that women will continue to fight for their rights. We women will continue to take our rights.
