Cuba’s Fuel Crisis Deepens After Tough Us Sanctions

Cuba is not getting enough fuel to meet its energy needs after the Donald Trump administration cut off oil supplies in late January. Due to lack of fuel, the humanitarian situation has reached a critical point in these three months. Meanwhile, the governments of Brazil, Mexico and Spain have expressed deep concern over this and urged to take necessary steps to ease the situation. This information has been given in a joint statement published on the website of the Spanish Foreign Ministry.

According to the report, on Saturday (April 18), the three governments also appealed to the parties concerned to avoid any steps that could worsen the living conditions of the people or violate international law. Along with this, they also resolved to increase their humanitarian assistance in a coordinated manner to alleviate the suffering of the Cuban people.

In their statement, Brazil, Spain and Mexico also reiterated the need to respect international law at all times. Along with this, he also stressed on adhering to the principles of territorial integrity, sovereign equality and peaceful resolution of disputes enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations.

They also reaffirmed their commitment to human rights, democratic values ​​and multilateralism. He said that the purpose of such talks should be to find a concrete solution to the current situation and to ensure that the Cuban people decide their own future with complete freedom.

“Despite reports of limited fuel supplies arriving, a recent shipment of oil from Russia was allowed to land at the port last week despite the US blockade. Humanitarian needs in the country remain persistent. The impact of the energy crisis has worsened since late March,” the UN official in the country said.

Let us tell you that Cuba’s energy needs were largely met by Venezuela until the kidnapping of President Nicolas Maduro by the US in January.
