Ashwini Vaishnav inaugurates indigenous bullet train factory

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has inaugurated BEML’s ‘Aditya’ manufacturing plant in Bengaluru. This initiative is considered an important step towards taking forward India’s indigenous bullet train program. The minister said that the design of the ‘self-reliant’ version B-28 is now being prepared in the country, for which collaboration is being done between the Integrated Coach Factory (ICF) and BEML. Under this project, Bullet Train coaches will be manufactured in this new plant.

According to officials, the ‘Aditya’ plant is equipped with state-of-the-art and high-precision machines, including advanced technology like robotic laser welding system. With this facility, it is expected that indigenous manufacturing of high-speed trains will be possible under the Self-reliant India campaign.

During the inauguration, Vaishnav said that this plant will play an important role in India’s high-speed rail projects. He also informed about the progress on semi-high speed rail services and said that plans are being made to extend Vande Bharat Express beyond Mangalore to Margao.

The minister said that the work of rail electrification between Hassan and Mangalore has been completed and at present testing and trials are going on. Services on this route are likely to start in the next few months, which will improve connectivity in coastal Karnataka.

Apart from this, new train services have also been announced between Bengaluru and Mumbai. Of these, one superfast train will run on the Hubli-Dharwad route, while the other Vande Bharat Express will directly connect the two cities as a sleeper service. Both services are expected to launch in the next few months.

Talking about urban rail projects, Vaishnav also mentioned the progress of the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project. He said that after the administrative changes, the project has gained momentum and the land acquisition work is also progressing at a satisfactory pace.
