Congress government did not buy even a handful of wheat in 55 years: CM Mohan Yadav!
He was addressing a gathering after performing the bhoomi pujan of the first phase of the Indore-Pithampur Economic Corridor (IPEC) in Indore on Sunday.
CM Mohan Yadav termed this achievement as a victory of his administration’s commitment towards farmers and underlined the scope of progress by citing historical comparisons.
He said that in 1956 the price of wheat was only Rs 80 to 100 per quintal. Over the next five decades, the price increased by only Rs 400 per quintal, giving farmers only nominal profits. Till 2002–2003, wheat prices in the state were still at a meager Rs 400 to Rs 500 per quintal.
He said that the purchase is being done at the rate of Rs 2,625 per quintal. He credited this change to the collective efforts of leaders and former chief ministers like Uma Bharti, Babulal Gaur and Shivraj Singh Chouhan and his government.
Chief Minister Yadav also promised to provide additional assistance with a bonus of Rs 600 to farmers growing a third crop like urad (black gram). He emphasized that previous governments had never given such incentives.
Reminding his party’s manifesto, he reiterated his promise to increase the wheat procurement rate to Rs 2,700 per quintal by 2028.
With three years left in his government’s tenure, he expressed confidence that this target would be achieved soon, possibly within the next year itself. Apart from crop procurement, Chief Minister Yadav presented a comprehensive vision for agricultural development.
He said his government was expanding opportunities in milk production and animal husbandry to diversify sources of income for farmers. An important announcement was also made regarding power supply.
CM Mohan Yadav assured that after the monsoon season ends and the crop cycle begins, farmers will get electricity only during day time. He said this measure will solve the difficulties of irrigating fields at night, which often exposes farmers to extreme cold, dangerous conditions and risks of working in mud.
The Chief Minister stressed that these reforms will make life easier for farmers, enabling them to work with greater comfort and safety.
Chief Minister Yadav positioned his government’s agriculture policy as a model of farmer welfare and empowerment, combining higher procurement prices, crop bonuses and better infrastructure.
