Police had been receiving information for a long time that food items were being supplied at cheap prices in Delhi and surrounding areas, whose quality was questionable. Based on this input, the police planned the raid. As soon as the police team raided the suspicious factory, even the officials were surprised to see the sight inside. A large quantity of expired cold drinks were kept in the factory. Investigation revealed that the expiry date of these cold drinks had passed, but with the help of machines, the old date was being removed and a new date was being printed. Not only this, fake barcodes were being prepared and pasted on bottles and cans, so that the goods looked genuine and could be easily sold in the market.

During the raid, the police also recorded videos in which it is clearly visible how barcodes are being printed from the machine and new dates are being put on expired goods. Not only this, apart from cold drinks, a large quantity of fake chocolates, baby products and other food items were also found in the factory, which were ready to be supplied in the wholesale market. According to police officials, the accused used to buy these expired products at very cheap prices and then sell them in the wholesale market by changing the date, using fake packing and fake barcodes. From there these goods reached small shopkeepers and ultimately reached the plates of common people.

Children’s products included
The most worrying thing is that the target of this gang was especially the products related to children. Items like baby food and chocolates, which parents buy with confidence, were vulnerable to adulteration and fraud. Health experts say expired and counterfeit food items can increase the risk of serious diseases, especially in children.
Where else was the supply made other than Delhi?
Delhi Police has arrested all the 7 accused and their interrogation is ongoing. Police are also trying to find out how long this network was active and in which states apart from Delhi-NCR, its goods were being supplied. After this action, a big question has arisen again whether every item sold in the country’s markets is trustworthy?
