Professor Arrested For Allegedly Having Obscene Conversation With A Student Abvp Raises Slogans Demanding Shoes Slippers And Beating

There was a huge uproar in Lucknow University when an assistant professor of the Zoology department was arrested for allegedly having obscene talk with a student and luring her into leaking the exam question paper. After the arrest of the accused professor, students and student organizations demonstrated strongly in the university campus.

The accused has been identified as Paramjeet Singh, who was working as an assistant professor in the zoology department of the university. After an audio clip went viral on social media, the police took action and detained him. In the viral audio, the professor is allegedly heard having an objectionable conversation with a final year B.Sc student.

During the protest, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) workers and campus students also demonstrated on the campus and demanded immediate suspension of the accused professor and strict legal action. When the police was taking the professor out of the campus, the protesting ABVP students were raising slogans of ‘This dog’s three medicines, slippers and beating’. Videos of the incident are becoming increasingly viral on social media.

It is alleged that the professor had offered to provide the question paper to the student before the examination and in return had made unreasonable demands from her. In the viral audio clip, the professor is purportedly heard saying, “Darling, I have got the paper out for you. Come back before the exam. I will give you the paper right here.”

After the incident, the student allegedly went under mental stress and informed the university administration about the entire matter. After this, the university’s examination controller Vidyanand Tripathi lodged a formal complaint with the police.

The police registered an FIR at Hasanganj police station and arrested the accused professor. At present he is being interrogated. However, Paramjit Singh has denied all the allegations against him. He says that he is being implicated due to the internal politics of the university.

Taking this matter seriously, the university administration has also started investigation. According to media reports, Vice Chancellor JP Saini has directed the internal complaints committee of the university to submit the investigation report within 24 hours. The university administration said in an official statement that a zero tolerance policy will be adopted towards activities that harm the dignity and academic environment of the institution.

ABVP Lucknow University unit president Jai Srivastava said, “There is no place for such cheap and distorted mentality in a prestigious institution.” He demanded that strict action be taken against the accused on serious charges like sexual harassment and compromising the sanctity of the examination process.

After this matter came to light, many questions have been raised regarding the university administration, examination system and student safety. At present, the police is taking further action on the basis of forensic investigation of the viral audio and other digital evidence.
