Preparations for change of power intensified in Karnataka; Siddaramaiah asked for a place in the cabinet for his son

The process of change of power has intensified in Karnataka. A day after Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot accepted the resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and dissolved the state cabinet, the Congress leadership is busy finalizing the formation of the new government. In this sequence, an important meeting of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) has been called at 4 pm on Saturday (30 May) in the conference hall of Vidhana Soudha, Bengaluru, in which the new leader will be elected. According to sources, Siddaramaiah has sought a place for his son in the cabinet of the incoming DK Shivakumar government.

Siddaramaiah himself will preside over the Congress Legislature Party meeting. It is almost certain that Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar will be elected as the new leader of the Congress Legislature Party in the meeting. After this, the process of new government formation and cabinet expansion will move forward.

Earlier, a day after his resignation, Siddaramaiah reached New Delhi along with his son Yatindra and held several rounds of meetings with the top Congress leadership. He met Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and senior party leader KC Venugopal.

According to sources, Siddaramaiah has not yet submitted the final list of his favorite leaders to be included in the cabinet. It is expected that he will prepare the list on Saturday and submit it to Congress General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala during the CLP meeting. Siddaramaiah has already rejected the proposal of sending him to Rajya Sabha by the Congress leadership. He has also indicated that he wants to remain active in Karnataka politics rather than playing a role in national politics.

Later Siddaramaiah also met Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. After the meeting, Kharge praised Siddaramaiah’s political contribution by sharing pictures on social media platform X. He said, “Shri Siddaramaiah’s public life has always been a symbol of dignity, sensitivity and deep commitment to social justice. Coming from a humble background to becoming Chief Minister of Karnataka twice, he maintained his commitment to equality, social harmony and the welfare of the deprived sections.”

Sources say that many young faces may get a chance in the new Karnataka cabinet. On the announcement of Congress candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections, Shivakumar said that discussions in this regard have been completed and the party leadership will announce the names at the appropriate time. On the question asked about the oath of office of the Chief Minister, Shivkumar said, “I do not know when the leader of the Congress Legislature Party will be elected.”

Political sources say that Siddaramaiah has discussed the claim for the post of Deputy Chief Minister for his son Yatindra. However, till now no response has been given by the party on this.
