UNSC calls emergency meeting on France’s appeal, ongoing fighting in Lebanon issue!
Speaking to BFMTV channel, Baro said, “I have requested an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council. We accept Israel’s right to self-defense, as does every country, but the continuation of Israeli military operations in Lebanon and its increasing occupation of Lebanese territory cannot be justified in any way.”
Lebanon became involved in the Middle East war on March 2, when Hezbollah fired rockets at Israel. The attack was carried out in response to the February 28 air strikes on Iran by the US and Israel that killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei.
A ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah began on April 17, but it was never fully implemented. Both sides accuse each other of daily ceasefire violations and call their actions a response to the other’s mistakes.
Over the weekend, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he would take military action deeper into Lebanon, and described Sunday’s action as a “major change” in the campaign. So, on Monday, Netanyahu and Israel Katz ordered the IDF to target Hezbollah positions in Dahiyeh, a southern suburb of Beirut.
According to the Israeli PM, Hezbollah is repeatedly violating ceasefire rules and continuously attacking Israeli cities.
According to American media reports, on Sunday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke to Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. During this, he discussed the ongoing diplomatic talks and said that first Hezbollah will have to stop its attacks.
