Ranveer moved court against the ban
Actor Ranveer Singh has approached the court in protest against the non-cooperation directions issued by the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) against him. This step has been taken amid the ongoing dispute with Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment regarding the film. The matter comes to light more than a week after the film organization announced action against the actor.
This decision of FWICE was taken on the basis of the complaint made by Farhan Akhtar against Ranveer Singh earlier this year. In its official statement released to the media, the federation said that Ranveer did not behave appropriately and refused to discuss the issue despite several attempts. “In view of the behavior shown towards the federation and the stakeholders associated with the project, the FWICE office has decided to issue a Non-Cooperation Direction (NCD) against Ranveer Singh,” the statement said.
Responding to FWICE’s directions, Ranveer Singh issued a statement the same day clarifying that he would not discuss the matter publicly. A statement issued by the actor said, “Ranveer Singh has the utmost respect for the film industry and everyone associated with the ‘Don’ franchise. He has deliberately decided to maintain silence during the recent incidents related to ‘Don 3’, as he believes that professional discussions and personal relationships are best handled with respect, maturity and mutual respect.”
Earlier, Federation representative Pandit had presented the organization’s side in a press conference. He said, “None of our employees or members will work on any of Ranveer Singh’s projects. We have appealed to all producers to raise their voice against this behavior and show solidarity with us.” However, amid growing opposition, he later clarified that the organization has not imposed any “ban” on the actor, but has only issued a “directive”. He said that the employees associated with the federation will not work with Ranveer, but the rest of the film industry is free to do so.
What is the ‘Don 3’ controversy?
The controversy started in August 2023, when Ranveer Singh was announced as the new face of Don 3 for the iconic role immortalized by Amitabh Bachchan and later played by Shah Rukh Khan. This announcement created widespread discussion among fans. The teaser released by Farhan Akhtar hinted at a new chapter of the franchise, presenting Ranveer as a young and modern don.
However, after the initial enthusiasm, the information related to the film gradually decreased. The lack of clarity regarding the cast, shooting schedule and release plans led to increasing speculation about the goings-on behind the scenes.
With time the discussion was not limited to just delays, but reports of serious differences started emerging. According to various reports, the actor was frustrated with the repeated delays and the absence of a final script. Besides, the difference in the creative approach of both the parties was also pointed out. According to the information, Ranveer wanted to present the character in a darker and harsher style, while the producers were in favor of maintaining the original style established in the earlier films of the franchise.
The situation became more complicated when reports of alternative cast members being sought started surfacing despite Ranveer’s name being publicly linked to the project. What initially started as a discussion of differences gradually turned into reports claiming that the actor is no longer associated with the film.
