Export of mangoes starts from Jharkhand, first consignment sent to United Kingdom!
Describing this as a great example of local goods going abroad, Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said on social media platform ‘X’ that Amrapali mangoes grown by the Mahila Farmer Producer Company of Simdega, Jharkhand are about to reach the United Kingdom.
Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, flagged off the first commercial consignment of fresh mangoes from the State to the United Kingdom from Kolkata on 4 June 2026.
The ministry said that this consignment contains 1.5 metric tonnes of fresh Amrapali mangoes received from Beura Farmer Producer Company Limited, a Mahila Farmer Producer Company (FPC) located in Bano block of Simdega district of Jharkhand. This consignment is being exported to London, United Kingdom by M/s JGB Agrofresh Pvt. Ltd., Kolkata.
This is being done after the export-oriented capacity development program organized by APEDA on May 5, 2026 for Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs), Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) and progressive farmers of Simdega district. The objective of the program was to focus on export requirements, quality standards and market opportunities.
Subsequently, APEDA facilitated in establishing contact between Beura Farmer Producer Company Limited and M/s JGB Agrofresh Private Limited for procurement of exportable quality mangoes from the district, according to the ministry. The current consignment is the result of this initiative.
The government further said that this initiative is expected to encourage adoption of quality production practices, better post-harvest management and compliance with international standards among farmer groups in the region.
