Meat and fish shops in Varanasi shifted outside, work in six months!
The Municipal Corporation has taken a big decision to give a better image to Kashi as a cultural city. Under this decision, meat and fish shops will no longer operate in Varanasi. Meat and fish shops will be shifted outside the city.
A resolution was passed in the Municipal Corporation House meeting that all meat and fish shops inside the city will be closed and they will be shifted out of the city. Kashi is an ancient cultural city, where lakhs of tourists from India and abroad come every month. The cultural image of the city is being tarnished by the sale of meat and fish in the open. Therefore this step is being taken. All meat and fish shops will be shifted out of the city within 6 months.
These shops will operate at 5 major places outside the city, which include Ramnagar, Dumri, Shivpur, Chitaipur and other places. All the meat and fish shops that were running inside the city till now will be shifted. Cleanliness, electricity, water and other necessary facilities will be provided in the new shops.
The Municipal Corporation Administration says that this decision will increase cleanliness on the city roads and tourists will get a better experience. The process of allotting valid shops to shopkeepers at new locations will also be started soon.
On the proposal to shift meat and fish shops out of Varanasi city, Mayor Ashok Kumar Tiwari said that none of the shops are legal. These are all illegal shops. None of these are authorized and all of them are running illegally.
We will make them legal. We will give them as good shops as possible. We will provide electricity and other necessary facilities. We will also ensure that there is proper waste management and garbage does not accumulate anywhere. We will divide the city into five parts and shift meat, fish and chicken shops to designated places outside the city.
He said that this is not just about Varanasi city. Kashi is a religious and cultural city. Lakhs of people come here to visit. They don’t come here to see meat and fish shops. We are providing the right environment for meat and fish shops outside the city. We are not removing or shutting them down. We will plant them at designated places outside the city and bring them to one place.
Mayor Ashok Tiwari said that this proposal had already been passed by the Executive Committee. The Municipal Corporation House unanimously approved shifting of meat and fish shops to five designated places outside the city.
We will create shops for all the existing shopkeepers. Kashi is a cultural and religious city, and about 1.5 to 2 lakh tourists come here every day. I believe that meat and fish shops should be outside the city. We will try to complete the relocation process in the next six months.
