An AN-32 transport aircraft of the Indian Air Force crashed in Jorhat, Assam on Saturday (June 13) morning. According to preliminary information, the plane met with an accident while landing at Jorhat Air Force Station and caught fire after the crash. It is being told that the plane fell inside the airbase complex, after which smoke and flames were seen rising from its debris. Fire and emergency response teams were rushed to the spot immediately after the incident and efforts were initiated to control the fire.
The plane can be seen badly damaged in the videos and pictures emerging from the incident site. Debris was seen scattered in various parts of the airbase, while security forces cordoned off the entire area and started relief, rescue and investigation operations.
At present the reasons for the accident are not known. The Indian Air Force has confirmed the incident and said that detailed information will be shared after assessing the situation. No casualties or injuries have been officially confirmed yet. The Air Force has started the investigation process to find out the cause of the accident. Only after detailed investigation will it be clear whether the accident occurred due to technical fault, weather or any other reason.
AN-32 aircraft is considered one of the most important transport aircraft of the Indian Air Force. This twin-engine turboprop aircraft, developed in the Soviet Union keeping Indian requirements in mind, is also called the “workhorse” of the Air Force. The Indian Air Force fleet includes about 100 such aircraft.

This aircraft is considered particularly suitable for operations in high altitude areas and hot climates. The AN-32 is capable of carrying up to 7.5 tonnes of cargo, 50 passengers or 42 paratroopers at a time. It is widely used in logistics and supply missions in difficult areas.
This accident has happened at a time when a Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter plane of the Indian Air Force had crashed in Assam a few months ago. The two-seater fighter aircraft, which took off on a routine training sortie from Jorhat Air Force Station on March 5, lost contact with ground control at around 7:42 pm.
The aircraft was later found crashed in the Englong Ekopi hilly area in Bokajan subdivision of Karbi Anglong district, about 60 km from the Jorhat airbase. Two pilots of the Indian Air Force were killed in that accident.
Following the latest AN-32 crash, the Air Force’s safety standards and technical scrutiny have once again come into focus. A detailed report from the authorities is awaited.
