Flexibility and ability to learn is the real strength of India: Goyal!
Speaking at the India Global Forum’s UK-India Week 2026 held in London, Goyal said such platforms provide an excellent opportunity for people to learn from each other and strengthen partnerships.
Recalling his early educational career, Goyal said that he faced a big setback while studying Chartered Accountancy.
He said that despite securing second position in the law subject at Bombay University, he was extremely disappointed after getting much less marks than expected in the law subject in the Chartered Accountancy examination.
Goyal said that being dissatisfied with the result, he had gone to Delhi to get his answer sheet and marks reviewed.
He recalled that during that time he met the former President of the Institute, K.G. Spent the whole day with Somani. Somani explained to them that the marks or rank obtained in an examination does not determine a person’s future.
According to Goyal, Somani advised him that success in life is not determined only by getting first or second position in an examination.
He said that the direction of the future is not decided by the ranking, but by the individual’s efforts, ability to learn and thinking about moving forward.
The minister said that he later realized that that failure was actually an important lesson for him, which changed his perspective on life and success.
Piyush Goyal further said that in youth, people often give excessive importance to rankings and achievements. But with time life teaches us to accept challenges and learn from them and move forward.
He said that life experiences, failures and opportunities to meet people from different backgrounds play an important role in a person’s development.
Giving examples from daily life, Goyal said that there are some things which cannot always be planned or controlled.
He said that just as it is difficult to predict the traffic situation accurately in cities like London and Bengaluru, similarly many circumstances in life are beyond our control.
The Minister said that the experiences of friends, colleagues and people we meet at various events give us new lessons and become a source of inspiration.
He stressed that continuous learning and being open to the opinions and suggestions of others is very important for personal development as well as the progress of the country.
Piyush Goyal said that the learning process never ends. Only those individuals and countries who keep learning continuously move forward and achieve new heights.
He said that India’s development journey is also based on this thinking, where the culture of converting challenges into opportunities and learning from every experience is taking the country towards new success.
