Assistance amount for women in Tamil Nadu will be Rs 2,500: Minister Jagatheeswari!

Tamil Nadu Social Welfare and Women’s Rights Minister Jagatheeswari on Sunday said the state government is working towards increasing the monthly financial assistance given to women from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,500. He assured that the revised assistance amount will be made available to all the eligible women of the state.

Addressing an eye check-up camp organized on the occasion of Chief Minister Vijay’s birthday at Rajapalayam, the Minister said that the government is committed to fulfilling its promises and extending the benefits of welfare schemes to every eligible woman in the state.

Jagatheeswari said that the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) government is working only for the welfare of the public. Reiterating Chief Minister Vijay’s commitment to provide corruption-free governance, he said that “there will not be even one percent corruption in the TVK government.”

He appealed to the people that if any government official asks for bribe in exchange for any government service, then they should immediately complain about it. He said that if the complaint is found to be true, strict action will be taken against the concerned officer without any delay.

Referring to the Women’s Rights Assistance Scheme, the Minister said that at present an assistance amount of Rs 1,000 is being given regularly to the eligible women every month. Besides, preparations are also underway to increase this amount to Rs 2,500.

He said that the government will fulfill its promise and all eligible women will get the benefit of increased assistance amount as soon as the process is completed.

The minister said that the government has received a large number of new applications from those women who could not get the benefits of the scheme despite applying during the previous government. He said names of many eligible women were left out, while in some cases multiple applications were also made by the same person.

Jagatheeswari said the government is conducting comprehensive verification of all applications so that duplicate applications are identified, errors are removed and only genuine eligible beneficiaries get the benefits of the scheme.

He said that the purpose of this verification process is to implement the Women’s Rights Assistance Scheme in a completely transparent and inclusive manner, so that every eligible woman in Tamil Nadu can get its benefits.

Appealing to the people to remain patient, the minister said that as promised by Chief Minister Vijay, the monthly assistance amount for women will be increased to Rs 2,500 after the completion of verification and other formal processes.
