Didn’t get permission for Jantar Mantar, will still go to Delhi: Omar Abdullah!
The National Conference (NC) has announced a protest at Jantar Mantar on July 20, coinciding with the beginning of the monsoon session of Parliament, demanding restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking to the media in Srinagar, Omar Abdullah said that the party’s stand on the issue of restoring the ‘snatched rights’ of Jammu and Kashmir is firm. There will be no change in our program. Dr. Mustafa Kamal also wanted our rights to be restored. Despite Dr. Kamal’s health deteriorating on July 11, the party decided to continue the scheduled political programs.
He said, “Then the doctors told us that he might not survive. Even at that time, National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah had instructed us that whatever happens, we have to continue our program in Jammu on July 12. If we had not canceled that program, then the question of canceling the July 20 protest would not have arisen.”
The Chief Minister said that he has already told the party leaders to leave for New Delhi on July 19, even if the protest is not allowed. The National Conference will maintain patience and also keep alternative plans ready. We know how to maintain patience. We will wait, but will also keep our alternative plan ready.
Meanwhile, various groups of displaced Kashmiri Pandits have also announced a protest at Jantar Mantar on July 20. Their demand is that statehood should be given to them after resettlement and not before.
Meanwhile, NC MP Agha Syed Ruhullah Mehdi has said that he will not participate in NC’s Jantar Mantar protest.
Senior separatist leader and chief cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq welcomed the move, but said it should also have included a demand for a permanent solution to the Kashmir issue.
