RJD MLC in Bihar said, student movement is not political!

Senior Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and Legislative Council member Abdul Bari Siddiqui launched a scathing attack on the Bihar government over the lathicharge on students in Patna. He alleged that the government was attempting to suppress the student movement and was continuously lying to hide its failures.

Speaking to the media at the Legislature complex on Thursday, Siddiqui said, “The government which is lathicharged on students will have to be changed.” He also questioned the government’s claim that students were not involved in the protest.

Siddiqui said that if the government is saying that there were no students in the movement, then it is factually wrong. The names, addresses and identities of those who were detained at the police station and other places are recorded in the government records.

The RJD leader also referred to the statement of Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary and said that it is not appropriate to dismiss the student movements. He said that student movements have had an important contribution in the political history of Bihar and those in power should not forget this.

Siddiqui claimed that the ongoing movement in Delhi and Patna is completely a spontaneous movement of students and no political party has any role in it. He said that students have taken to the streets for their rights and future and the government is trying to suppress their voice.

Referring to the student movement of 1974, he said that that movement had laid the foundation of political change and even today students can become a force of change in the same way. He alleged that in the name of power, the government is ignoring the future of the youth and their rights. Instead of accepting its responsibility, the government is trying to defame the movement.

However, he also admitted that the role of some leaders in this entire incident has made the situation worse. He appealed to the government to seriously listen to the demands of the students and find a solution through dialogue instead of using force.
