Ruckus in Parliament again, Lok Sabha-Rajya Sabha proceedings adjourned!

Clashes between the ruling party and the opposition continued on Tuesday during the monsoon session of Parliament. Within minutes of the commencement of proceedings in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha houses, the opposition MPs started raising loud slogans raising the issue of use of police force on the protesting students. Due to the continuous uproar, the proceedings of both the houses had to be adjourned till 2 pm.

Due to the uproar, Question Hour could not be held in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha houses. As soon as the proceedings of the Lok Sabha started, the opposition members got up from their seats and started raising slogans. They were protesting against the police action on the protesting students and demanding immediate discussion on the issue. The Speaker of the Lok Sabha several times requested the opposition members to return to their seats and allow the Question Hour to continue.

He said that Question Hour is an important proceeding of the House and it should not be disrupted. Despite this, the opposition MPs did not calm down and continued raising slogans. When order was not restored in the House, the proceedings of the Lok Sabha were adjourned till 2 pm.

At the same time, the opposition in Rajya Sabha remained adamant on the demand for discussion under Rule 267. As soon as the proceedings began in the Rajya Sabha, the opposition raised the demand for discussion on the issue of protesting students. Opposition MPs have been discussing this issue immediately by accepting the adjournment motion under Rule 267.

An appeal was made by the Chairman for the smooth running of the House, but the opposition members remained adamant on their demand and continued sloganeering. The proceedings of the House could not proceed due to the noise and ultimately the proceedings of the Rajya Sabha were also adjourned till 2 pm.

It is noteworthy that on Monday, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju had said that the opposition was deliberately not allowing discussion. Congress has been demanding a discussion on paper leaks and the future of students for a long time, but now when the government is ready to discuss an important bill like ‘Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill’, the opposition is not allowing the House to function.

In fact, the issue of police action against protesting students during the monsoon session of Parliament is continuously the target of the opposition. The same situation was seen in both the Houses on Tuesday also, due to which the Parliament proceedings could not proceed as per the scheduled agenda.
