The opposition demanded a detailed discussion in Parliament on the alleged police action, lathi charge and use of pellet guns on students as well as alleged irregularities in Ram temple offerings and donations.
Samajwadi Party MP Dharmendra Yadav, while speaking to IANS, said that strict action should be taken against those involved in the alleged theft of temple offerings. He said that many serious issues are pending in the Parliament, but the Union Home Minister is still avoiding coming to the House and answering.
Dharmendra Yadav alleged that till now the Home Minister has not given any clarification in the Parliament proceedings on law and order, firing, lathi charge on students and other important matters. Until the opposition does not get an opportunity to discuss these issues, the Samajwadi Party will continue to raise its voice.
SP MP Awadhesh Prasad also launched a scathing attack on the government. He alleged that BJP and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) have betrayed the faith of crores of devotees of the country. The matter of alleged looting of temple offerings and donations collected from devotees is very serious. SP MPs demonstrated in the Parliament premises regarding this issue and also demanded discussion within the House.
Awadhesh Prasad said that the sentiments of crores of people have been hurt and their struggle will continue until there is a fair investigation into this alleged case and the culprits are not punished.
SP MP Virendra Singh supported the statement of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and accused the government of adopting double standards. He said that the public wants the government to make its stand clear. He also said that earlier BJP kept accusing Mulayam Singh Yadav of firing, but now when questions are being raised on the current incidents, the government is giving different arguments. He called it the double character of BJP.
SP MP Akshay Yadav also demanded the arrest of the culprits in the alleged theft of offerings. He said that it was not appropriate to form a special investigation team without registering an FIR. He said that Samajwadi Party was demanding from the first day that SIT should be constituted under the supervision of a sitting judge so that the investigation could be impartial. He alleged that the government did not do this and later the investigation process proceeded after the directions of the Supreme Court.
Congress MP Ranjit Ranjan raised questions on the moral responsibility of the government regarding the alleged police action against students. He said that if such incidents happen under any ministry then the accountability of the concerned minister should be fixed. Referring to cases like paper leak, he said that the government should answer and accept responsibility.
Congress MP Randeep Singh Surjewala also attacked the central government and said that those responsible for incidents like pellet gun and lathi charge on students should apologize.
He said that the entire opposition will demand the Union Home Minister to come to the House to answer and apologise. Surjewala defended Rahul Gandhi and said that there is no apology for speaking the truth.
He also said that merely making laws will not solve the problems, but action should also be taken against those who are the patrons of the paper leak mafia. The opposition, led by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, is struggling to hold the government accountable.
Jharkhand Mukti Morcha MP Mahua Maji said that her party stands with the common stand of the opposition India Bloc. He said that the opposition leaders were expressing the sentiments of students across the country and the problems of the students should be taken seriously.
Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra also targeted the government and said that the country wants to know why pellet guns and lathicharge were used on the students. The government should give a clear answer on this entire matter.
Communist Party of India MP P. Santosh Kumar reiterated the two main demands of the opposition. He said that the first demand is that the Union Home Minister should come to the Parliament and give a statement on the alleged police action and the second demand is that there should be a detailed discussion in the Parliament on the Ram Mandir construction fund and offerings issue.
