150 electric charging and 13 battery swapping stations will open soon in Noida.

Noida Authority and related departments have made an ambitious plan to develop infrastructure for e-vehicles to solve the problem of pollution. Under this, battery swapping stations will also be set up, where users will be able to exchange discharged batteries with fully charged batteries.

What is the plan?

• 150 new electric vehicles (EV) charging stations and 13 battery swapping stations will be opened in Noida with the aim of controlling pollution.

• Vehicle owners will be able to get a fully charged battery by giving their old battery at the swapping station.

• This battery swapping process will take just five minutes, eliminating the need for hours of charging.

• The stations will be set up at various prominent locations in the city so that customers can get the service at affordable prices.

When will the work start?

According to the authority, the location survey and Expression of Interest (EOI) process will be started very soon, and the new charging and swapping stations are expected to be commissioned in the next 3-4 months.

What will be the benefit?

• Charging time for electric two-wheelers and commercial vehicles will be reduced and operation will become easier.

• Charging time will be reduced by swapping stations, which will provide relief to daily users.

• This initiative will help in promoting the adoption of EVs while aiming to reduce pollution.

Background and context

Noida authority is already working towards strengthening the EV infrastructure. In the first phase, 81 new EV charging stations are planned to be installed within three months, and 13 battery swapping stations will be implemented by March 2026.

The use of this swapping technology is increasing rapidly, making EV charging more accessible and faster. Many technology companies are working towards setting up battery swapping networks in India.
