150 million year old 'Vulcan' dinosaur skeleton ready for sale, historic auction to be held in Paris

New Delhi : The auction of the skeleton of 'Vulcan', one of the largest dinosaurs that roamed the earth 150 million years ago, will be held in Paris on November 16. French auction company Collin du Bocage & Barbarossa has announced this historic auction, in which 'Vulcan' will be offered as the “most complete” and largest dinosaur skeleton.

For this auction, the original estimated price of 'Vulcan' has been pegged at US$11 to 22 million (approximately Rs 92 to 185 crore) after pre-registration bids opened in July. This is a unique opportunity which is important not only for dinosaur enthusiasts but also for collectors.

Discovery and characteristics of the skeleton

This skeleton of the majestic Apatosaurus was discovered in Wyoming, USA in 2018 and its total length is 20.50 meters. About 80 percent of the bones in this skeleton belong to the same dinosaur, which shows its unique structure. “Vulcan is the largest and most complete dinosaur, unique in its category,” said founder and head of the auction, Olivier Colin du Bocage. This is the oldest discovery of a lifetime.”
