New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will initiate a special discussion in the Lok Sabha on Monday on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the national song Vande Mataram. Published for the first time in the literary magazine Bangadarshan on 7 November 1875 by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, this song played an important role in the independence movement. PM Modi can present his views on its historical importance, its contribution in the freedom struggle and its relevance to modern India. The opposition is also curious about the Prime Minister’s views on this subject.

PM Modi’s criticism on Congress

Recently, during a program, Prime Minister Modi had alleged that in the Faizabad Congress session of 1937, the party divided the national anthem into pieces by removing some lines of Vande Mataram. According to him, this decision further sowed the seeds of division. Congress rejected these allegations and said that this decision was taken on the suggestion of Rabindranath Tagore so that the sentiments of different communities could be respected.

discussion program in parliament

The entire discussion on Vande Mataram in the Lok Sabha can last for about 10 hours, out of which 3 hours have been given to NDA members. The discussion is likely to continue till night. At the same time, Home Minister Amit Shah can start the discussion on this topic in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.

Controversy also came to light as soon as the session started. It was said by the Rajya Sabha Secretariat to avoid using words like ‘Vande Mataram’ and ‘Jai Hind’ in the Parliament premises. On this, the opposition accused the government of distancing itself from the symbols of freedom and unity. The winter session will continue till December 19 and a heated debate can be seen on this issue in the coming days.

Congress speakers will also be included

Eight prominent leaders from Congress can participate in the discussion in the Lok Sabha, including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Gaurav Gogoi, Deependra Hooda, Vimal Akoijam, Praniti Shinde, Prashant Padole, Chamala Reddy and Jyotsna Mahanta. The party is seeing this discussion as an opportunity to emphasize its historical perspective and the diversity of the country.
