“Dale Stan said Slower Ball, Umran Malik threw 155 kmph yorker! The veteran surprised the revelation”
As soon as the name of fast bowling came in Indian cricket, Umran Malik was at the top. This youth of Jammu and Kashmir got a lot of accolades in the IPL with tremendous speed and wicket-break yorker in the IPL. But before IPL 2025, Umran is once again in discussion – this time about getting away from the ground. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bought Umran for this season, but due to injuries and fitness problems he has been ruled out of the entire tournament. The career of Umran, once called the Future Star of Team India, is currently visible on the break.
Umran Malik performed a bang in IPL 2022. In that season, he took 22 wickets and blows the batsmen stumps at a speed of 150+ km/h. At that time, Sunrisers Hyderabad's bowling coach Dale Stan called him 'Ferrari'. Stan recently shared a funny anecdote of how Umran adopted his plan by ignoring his plan and shocked the opposing batsmen.
Stan said, “I told Umran that Slower balls should be used more. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was putting 12 Slower balls every four overs, and Umran is just one. I said that you start putting two Slower balls. He said- 'If you are doing Bhuvi, I will also do it.' But when the opportunity came, he put 155 km/h yorker and scattered stumps. “
Stan says that the figures are necessary, but sometimes the player's feeling matters more. “I was asking him to put a slow ball, but he used his strength and showed amazing. This is Umran's feature,” Stan said.
Why did Umran's speed stop?
In IPL 2023, Umran could take only five wickets and then did not get a single wicket in IPL 2024. After this, SRH released him and was also ruled out of Team India. Injuries and fitness issues harassed him. Stan admits that when you land on a big stage like IPL, the pressure of the crowd and the desire to show your speed sometimes distracts from the game plan. “If you bowl at a speed of 160 km/h but it goes against the team's plan, then you can also give 60-70 runs. Then it is not right for the team and you are also not right.
Stan further said, “Umran Malik has time, and if he works on his fitness and diversity, it is possible to return. Stan is also confident that if Umran gives priority to the needs of the team and shows understanding with his speed, he can again engage on the cricket field.”
