17 Mid-Size Hybrid SUVs Launching In 2026, 2027

In the last few months, we all have been listening a lot about hybrid cars. Many now believe that hybrids will play a major role in the future of mobility in India and across the globe. Well, if you are also someone who believes the same, then you have come to the right spot. Here is the list of all the hybrid SUVs that will be making their debut in 2026 and 2027.

Renault will launch the strong-hybrid version of the new-generation Duster around Diwali this year. Unlike the old Duster, the new SUV is not being offered with a diesel engine. So, to offer a fuel-efficient option, the company will offer the Duster with a 1.8-litre strong-hybrid petrol powertrain, which will produce around 160 PS and 172 Nm. Renault claims that up to 80 percent of city driving can be done in EV mode, making it one of the most fuel-efficient SUVs in the segment. Renault also offers the Duster with 1.0-litre and 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine options.

Nissan India will also launch its own hybrid, and it will be the Tekton Hybrid. It will be based on the same CMF-B platform and share the 1.8-litre strong-hybrid powertrain as the Duster. It will make 160 PS and 172 Nm. However, Nissan will give it a unique identity with styling inspired by the Patrol SUV. The Tekton will be manufactured alongside the Duster in India, and it is expected to make its debut in 2027.

After launching the Duster Hybrid, Renault will shift focus to the Boreal, which will be the larger seven-seater SUV based on the same platform. The Boreal will offer a longer wheelbase and an additional row of seats for buyers looking for a family SUV. Powering the Boreal Hybrid will be the same 1.8-litre strong-hybrid petrol engine from the Duster. The SUV is expected to make its debut by the end of 2026.

Like Renault, Nissan will also launch its own version of the Boreal by mid-2027. This new 7-seater SUV will be offered with the same 1.8-litre strong-hybrid petrol engine. This SUV will become Nissan’s flagship family-oriented product in India.

JSW MG Motor India is also gearing up for the launch of the Starlight 560 plug-in hybrid SUV. It is expected to launch around the festive season of this year. The Starlight 560 will be offered with a 1.5-litre petrol engine, and it will come paired with an electric motor and a 20.5 kWh battery pack. It will produce 197 PS and 230 Nm. The biggest highlight is its claimed combined range of around 1,100 km and an electric-only range of nearly 100 km.

JSW Motors, which will be JSW Group’s new car company, will also enter the Indian market with a rebadged version of the Jetour T2. This large SUV will feature a plug-in hybrid powertrain. It will combine a 1.5-litre petrol engine, two electric motors, and a 26.7 kWh battery pack. This system will produce 375 PS and 610 Nm and will be much more powerful than the Toyota Fortuner. The SUV will also offer an electric-only range of up to 140 km, and it is expected to arrive in India in 2027.

The new Tata Sierra is based on the modular ARGOS platform, which can support hybrid technology in the future. It has been reported that next year, the company could offer the Sierra with a new 1.5-litre petrol engine, which will use an Atkinson cycle. This will help the Tata Sierra in making sure that it can remain competitive in the mid-size SUV segment.

Speaking of the mid-size SUV segment, Tata Motors’ direct rival, Mahindra Automotive, is also gearing up for the launch of the Vision S mid-size SUV. This SUV will be based on the NU_IQ platform and will come equipped with a strong-hybrid powertrain. Its details have not been revealed as of yet. However, most likely, it could be making its official debut in 2027.

Mahindra xuv 7x

Mahindra is currently also working on a strong-hybrid version of the XUV 7XO, which has been internally codenamed W613. The SUV is expected to launch around 2027 and will offer a petrol engine with an electric motor and battery pack. The hybrid setup will improve fuel efficiency and also offer short-distance electric-only driving in city conditions.

Maruti Suzuki, this year, will be launching the facelifted iteration of the Grand Vitara. The updated SUV is expected to come offered with a revised grille, new alloy wheels, refreshed bumpers, and Level 2 ADAS. The 1.5-litre strong-hybrid powertrain will continue to be on offer.

Toyota is also working on an updated version of the Hyryder. Like the Grand Vitara facelift, the SUV is expected to receive cosmetic updates and more features, including an ADAS package, ventilated seats, and others. The existing 1.5-litre strong-hybrid powertrain will remain the same. Launch is expected to take place later this year.

Toyota will also be launching a new three-row version of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder. Recent test mules have reported that this SUV will feature a longer rear overhang and an additional row of seats. Powertrain options are expected to remain unchanged. This means it will offer the same 1.5-litre naturally aspirated and strong-hybrid powertrains. The SUV could make its debut later in 2026 or in early 2027.

Maruti Suzuki is also working on a seven-seater version of the Grand Vitara. Like the Hyryder, it will feature three rows of seating and continue with the proven 1.5-litre strong-hybrid powertrain paired with an eCVT gearbox. The SUV is expected to make its debut around the same time as the Hyryder seven-seater.

Kia Sorento

Soon, Kia will also enter the strong-hybrid SUV segment in India with the Sorento Hybrid. It is expected to launch towards the end of 2026. The seven-seater SUV will use a new 1.5-litre petrol-hybrid powertrain, which has been developed specifically for future Hyundai and Kia products in India. The Sorento Hybrid will become Kia’s flagship hybrid offering, and it is expected to come loaded with a premium cabin and features.

Kia is also working on a hybrid version of the Seltos. The SUV will use the same 1.5-litre strong-hybrid powertrain, which will debut on the Sorento. The Seltos Hybrid is expected to launch by late 2026 or early 2027 and will directly rival hybrid versions of the Creta, Hyryder, and Grand Vitara.

Hyundai is currently developing the new generation of the Creta, and it has been reported that it will be offered with a strong-hybrid powertrain. The SUV will use the same 1.5-litre hybrid powertrain as the Sorento and Seltos. Launch will most likely take place in 2027.
