19,000 ASHA workers in Punjab join statewide health card registration drive of Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana

Further strengthening access to the last line of health services, the Punjab Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has activated its extensive ASHA worker network to speed up the registration process under the Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana. Under this campaign, more than 19,000 Asha workers and 900 assistants are accelerating registration in the villages of Punjab.

Responsibility assigned to workers

Asha workers are playing an important role in expanding the reach of this scheme to the grassroots level. Each worker has been assigned the responsibility of around 1,000 people and around 250 families, where they are visiting door-to-door to spread awareness and provide support to the families for registration at Seva Kendras and Common Service Centres. This initiative is ensuring that scheme information reaches every household directly, especially in rural areas, and the registration and verification process is completed smoothly without any confusion or delay.

The impact of this continuous effort being made at the grassroots level is clearly visible. In the last 20 days alone, about 10 lakh registrations have been done through Asha workers, due to which the scope of health coverage has increased rapidly across Punjab. To maintain this momentum, ASHA workers are being given incentives on successful registration, so that accountability and continuous work can be ensured.

Highlighting the objective of this initiative, Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh Ji said, “Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann Ji has made it clear that no family in Punjab should be troubled due to the cost of treatment. Our ASHA workers are taking this belief to people’s doorstep, so that every family is aware of the scheme and can easily register. This is not a scheme limited to papers only, but a guarantee that we are taking to every household.”

Increasing scope of the scheme

The scope of Chief Minister Health Scheme is continuously increasing. Currently around 50,000 people are registering every day and more than 35 lakh health cards have been issued so far. Districts like Ludhiana, Patiala and Jalandhar continue to lead in terms of registrations, reflecting wide participation in both urban and rural areas.

Along with registration, health services are also being provided rapidly under the scheme. More than 2 lakh treatments with a total cost of more than ₹300 crore have been performed so far, including more than 40,000 surgical procedures. These treatments mainly include heart disease, dialysis, orthopedics, cancer treatment and emergency medical services. A provision of ₹2,000 crore has also been made in the Punjab Budget 2026–27 for the expansion of the scheme.

Through camps, service centers and door-to-door contact campaigns, the Punjab government is continuously motivating people to get their health cards made and avail the benefits of cashless treatment under the Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana.
