A famous Pakistani song from 1970, ‘Saanu Nehar Wale Pul Te Bla Ke’, is now rapidly gaining popularity in India.
Originally sung by the legendary Malika-e-Tarannum Noor Jehan in her melodious voice, the song is now enchanting India’s Generation Z. Its lyrics, which express hidden desires and challenges in relationships, have resonated deeply with today’s youth.
Over five decades later, the song is being featured as the background music for Instagram Reels by Indian users. Its sudden popularity in India is attributed to the way the lyrics reflect personal experiences and emotions of the younger generation.
The song went viral on social media about a month ago when the music band Patiala Mehfil shared a video of themselves performing it on their Instagram page. The video has since garnered over 22.1 million views and more than 2 million likes.
To date, the audio clip of ‘Saanu Nehar Wale Pul Te Bla Ke’ has been used in over 104,000 Instagram Reels, further cementing its status as a cross-generational and cross-border favorite.
This resurgence demonstrates how timeless classics can find new life among younger audiences through social media platforms.
