Mountain valleys, trees and a river… 42 passengers were traveling by bus in Almora, Uttarakhand, seeing these views. But only 30 minutes had passed in the journey when suddenly there was a shock in the bus. The driver lost control of the vehicle and the bus fell into a 200 meter ditch. 36 passengers died in this accident. At the same time, three seriously injured passengers were airlifted.
Kinath is a place in Almora. From here the bus was going to Ramnagar with passengers. The distance from Kinath to Ramnagar is approximately 54 km. But due to the hilly route, the bus drivers complete the journey in about two hours. The bus reached Marchula with 42 passengers from Kinath. Meanwhile, the bus passengers sitting inside got a shock and the bus went out of control and fell into the ditch.
Passersby informed the police about the accident
Passersby immediately informed the police about the accident. Police from the local police station reached the spot. The officials also informed the SDRF and NDRF team. The rescue team reached the spot and rescued the injured. However, the bus is still lying in the ditch. An official said that the bus will be taken out of the ditch.
According to eyewitnesses, the bus hit several ditches. The bus overturned after the accident. The tires of the bus had gone up. The bus was resting on the roof. Where this accident happened, a small river also passes nearby. There was still knee-deep water in the river. The pedestrians reached the spot via the river.
According to eyewitnesses, the bus was full of passengers. But after the accident, the voices of only a few people were heard. Some people were moaning. The rescue team pulled out the passengers from the bus, of whom 22 died on the spot, while 14 died in the hospital.
Garhwal Motor Owners Association operates some buses for local passengers on the Kinath-Ramnagar route, one of which was this bus. Meanwhile, the bus met with an accident at eight in the morning. This bus was 43 seater.
What did DM say on the accident?
On this accident, District Magistrate Alok Kumar Pandey said that the police and SDRF team immediately started the rescue operation. The injured were immediately admitted to the hospital. Kumaon Commissioner Deepak Rawat, IG Nilesh Anand Bharne also reached the spot and took stock.
Expressing grief over this accident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed condolences to the families of the deceased. CM Pushkar Singh Dhami has taken cognizance of this accident. He has given instructions to suspend ARTO enforcement in the respective areas of Pauri and Almora. CM Dhami has ordered to give Rs 4 lakh each to the family members of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh each to the injured.
