2 Indian LPG tankers left Hormuz safely, returning to India with 92 thousand tonnes of gas

Iran crisis: Amidst the increasing tension in the Middle East, news of relief for India has come to light. According to the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, two Indian-flagged LPG tankers ‘Jag Vasant’ and ‘Pine Gas’ have safely transited the Strait of Hormuz and are now headed towards India.

Ships carrying 92 thousand tons of LPG

According to the ministry, the two ships have a total load of 92,612.59 metric tonnes of LPG. This consignment is considered very important for maintaining the domestic gas supply in the country. It is expected that these ships will reach Indian ports between 26 to 28 March.

60 Indian sailors safe

There are 33 Indian sailors on board ‘Jag Vasant’ and 27 on ‘Pine Gas’. These two ships, with a total of 60 sailors, have safely crossed one of the most sensitive sea lanes in the world. At present, the Shipping Ministry and the Indian Navy are continuously monitoring them.

Why is the Strait of Hormuz important?

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important oil and gas transit routes. A large part of the global energy supply passes through this route. In such a situation, due to the ongoing tension between Iran, United States and Israel, the danger to the ships passing through here has increased. Although the situation remains tense, the safe passage of these two Indian ships is being considered a big relief for India’s energy security.
