India vs New Zealand 2nd Test: Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin made a special record in the first innings of the second Test match against New Zealand at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Thursday (24 October). Ashwin gave India the first three wickets and made Tom Latham, Will Young and Devon Conway his victims.

Ashwin has reached the first position in terms of taking most wickets in the history of the World Test Championship. He now has 189 wickets (till the time of writing) in 74 innings of 39 matches. In this list, he left behind Nathan Lyon, who has 187 wickets in his name in 78 innings of 43 Tests.

Ashwin has come at seventh place by surpassing Nathan Lyon in the list of players taking the most wickets in Test cricket. Ashwin now has 531 wickets in 196 innings of 104 Tests. Whereas Lyon has taken 530 wickets in 242 innings of 129 Tests. Now ahead of Ashwin in this list, only Muttiah Muralitharan, Shane Warne, James Anderson, Anil Kumble, Stuart Broad and Glenn McGrath are there.

Let us tell you that Ashwin's performance in the first Test match played in Bengaluru was disappointing. Including both the innings of the matches, he gave 100 runs and took only 1 wicket.

It is noteworthy that in this match, New Zealand had won the toss and decided to bat first.
