200 mm rain in Mumbai within 24 hours: low lying areas flooded, train services affected

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted moderate to heavy rain with thunderstorms in Mumbai and its suburbs in the next 24 hours. According to the civic body data, the city recorded an average of 195 mm rainfall, while the western suburbs received 208 mm rainfall and the eastern suburbs 167 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours till 8 am. The southwest monsoon reached Mumbai on Tuesday – 13 days late from its normal arrival date – bringing widespread rainfall across the city and suburbs and providing much-needed respite from the scorching heat.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued an ‘Orange’ alert for the next three hours at 7 am. In this, moderate to heavy rain has been predicted in Mumbai, Thane, Raigarh, Palghar and Sindhudurg districts. The department has also issued an advisory for fishermen along the south Maharashtra-Goa coast, asking them not to venture into the sea between June 22 and June 26.
Maharashtra’s Thane and Palghar districts received heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours, leading to landslides at the beautiful Malshej Ghat and several reports of falling trees, officials said. Thane Resident Deputy Collector Sandeep Mane said that on Tuesday (June 23, 2026) evening, a minor landslide was reported at an important part of Malshej Ghat; This route connects Thane and Pune districts. According to district disaster management officials, the incident occurred on Tuesday (June 23, 2026) between 6 pm and 7 pm between “Wash Point” and “Umbrella Point” on the ghat.
