20,000 Units Sold In Under 3 Months
Tata Motors launched the new Sierra in late November and deliveries of the SUV began in mid-January. The carmaker has now announced commencing deliveries of 20,000 Sierras so far. A post shared on X (previously Twitter) celebrates the milestone.
The new Sierra has been doing well in sales for the past 2.5 months. The SUV had, in fact, generated massive interest among Indian buyers and amassed over 70,000 bookings in the first 24 hours itself. Tata Motors continues to ramp up production and is gradually clearing the backlog. We recently came across large-scale delivery events in many cities. Recently in Kolkata, 81 new Sierras were delivered on the same day.
In the first month itself, the Sierra sold 7003 units. By early March, the number touched the 10,000-unit mark. This indicated strong initial momentum for the SUV. This milestone came in just six weeks, and was confirmed officially by the carmaker on social handles. The next 10,000 deliveries were completed by March 31st.
During its Q3 FY26 interaction, Tata Motors’ leadership confirmed that bookings for the Sierra have already entered the six-digit territory. That itself is a huge milestone. The heightened demand can also be challenging as the carmaker will have to keep production aligned with supply chain realities to keep the deliveries on track and manage waiting periods.
The demand-surge is putting increased pressure on suppliers. The entire Indian passenger vehicle industry is now dealing with supply-side constraints. Volumes in general, have risen sharply in recent years, making it difficult for many suppliers to cater to the demand on time. Many of them already have their factories running at full capacity.

Some components, especially those related to powertrains, aren’t easily scalable in the short term. This makes the situation more complex. Tata Motors is known to be actively working with its supplier network to overcome these bottlenecks, and keep the Sierra’s production steady.
The new Sierra is currently manufactured at Tata’s Sanand plant. The Sierra.EV, set to launch in May, will also share the same production line. This plant is already experienced in handling high-demand models, as the hot-selling Nexon is also made here. This is expected to facilitate the Sierra’s scale-up.
Tata Motors plans to ramp up production to around 15,000 units per month, in the near term. If supply chain constraints ease, these could be taken as high as 1.5 lakh units per year. Doing so will place the Sierra among Tata’s highest-volume models, provided the demand stays as strong.

The new Tata Sierra is available in seven trims- Smart+, Pure, Pure+, Adventure, Adventure+, Accomplished and Accomplished+ trims. It has a starting price of Rs 11.49 lakh (ex-showroom). The biggest highlight of this model is its design that pays homage to that of the original SUV. It gets a full-width LED lightbar at the front, flush-fitting door handles, a large, panoramic rear glass area, and slim LED tail lights connected by a light bar.
Inside, this SUV looks modern and upmarket. It comes with features like a triple-screen setup, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, 12-speaker JBL audio with Dolby Atmos, electronic parking brake, powered tailgate, 360-degree camera, dual-zone climate control, ventilated seats, wireless charger, ambient lighting, panoramic sunroof, level 2 ADAS, and many other features.

On the powertrain front, the new internal combustion Sierra is available with three engine options- two petrol and a diesel. The 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol makes 104 hp and 145 Nm, while the turbocharged petrol has an output of 158hp and 255Nm. The 1.5 diesel produces 116hp and up to 280 Nm. Both manual and automatic transmissions are available on the naturally aspirated petrol and diesel engines while the turbo-petrol is automatic-only.
