Let us tell you that on December 13, 2001, at around 11:30 am, five terrorists entered the Parliament House from Gate No. 12 in a white Ambassador car. There were fake stickers of Home Ministry and Parliament on the car. But, seeing the activities of the car, the security personnel became suspicious and ran after it. After this, the terrorists panicked and hit the Vice President’s car parked there.
After the car collision, the five terrorists started firing indiscriminately with their AK-47 rifles. After which firing started in the Parliament complex. The terrorists were trying to enter the Parliament. But, the security personnel did not allow their efforts to succeed. The encounter continued till 5 pm and all five terrorists were killed.
During this, while fighting the terrorists, 5 Delhi Police personnel, a lady constable of CRPF Kamlesh Kumari, 2 employees of Rajya Sabha Secretariat and a gardener were martyred. Just two days after the attack, on 15 December 2001, Delhi Police arrested the attack masterminds Afzal Guru, SAR Geelani, Afshan Guru and Shaukat Hussain.
However, the Supreme Court acquitted SAR Geelani and Afshan Guru, while Shaukat Hussain’s sentence was reduced. But Afzal Guru, the main conspirator of the attack, was found guilty. He was hanged on 9 February 2013 at 8 am in Tihar Jail, Delhi.
